One event detector to rule them all
10 years of incremental code 100% rewritten and rethought.
Operational response is at the heart of the utility – we see it everyday as our software is used to manage system sectors, detect events, direct field priorities. And we are thrilled to announce that a new event detection engine now powers Baseform. Monitor, the largest app of Baseform, processes network sensor data to identify abnormal events, facilitates management and analysis, and generates accurate data-driven insights. The software continuously monitors incoming data and promptly detects various events, including small leaks escalating into larger issues, bursts, sprinklers, abnormal consumption, flat readings, missing values and other data anomalies, and more; on the wastewater side, detecting inflows as well as infiltration. Event detection in Baseform involves notifying users and quantifying the impact of each event, including its precise duration and volume, which will then inform leak reports or work orders. We’ve been deploying detector configurations in over 400 water systems comprising some 5000 water balance sectors (supply zones, pressure zones, DMAs, etc). 10 years of incremental code 100% rewritten and rethought – predictability and performance. Having our engines detect all of those types of events in such numbers has taught us, and our machine-learning algorithms, a lot. The new detector implementation is a quantum leap borne from that experience. A single very flexible detector replaces hundreds of individual configurations. We’ve also invested heavily in a new detection simulation tool to test near real-world conditions on large datasets, improving our already class-leading fast implementation. And new, very efficient detection workflows for complex cases and multiple simultaneous detection conditions. This is our best example yet of investing significantly in what could be seen as reinventing the same wheel repeatedly. However, it is actually pushing hard on the boundaries of what is possible and laying the solid foundations for even better outcomes for our users.
