On the evening of the World Cup final, across every one of our Spanish clients, the usual Sunday rhythm was nowhere to be found. Pre-game consumption way up, then dip (first half), sharp spike (half-time), another dip (second half), then mayhem as the final whistle blew — followed by rush-hour consumption well into 4am, presumably fueled by a great many celebratory beers and their liquid consequences. This is what it looks like when a whole country flushes at once... It's a fun example, but it points to something serious: behind every spike, dip, or drift in flow and consumption pattern lies an event — a burst pipe, an irrigation cycle, a meter fault, or, evidently, a nation celebrating. Screening every one of them manually, across every zone, around the clock, is not something a duty engineer can sustain at scale — so alarms get triaged loosely, and real breaks often go unnoticed behind noise.
