Aveva SCADA integration - key updates made to Baseform’s connectivity to the Aveva Historian.
Baseform’s DataSync capability allows the software to connect to any available data source used by utilities and synchronize with streaming data in real time.
Near real-time sensor data enables system-wide and zonal water balances, allowing the utility to closely monitor consumption, losses, and network performance at multiple scales. This continuous stream of information provides the foundation for managing non-revenue water, improving operational efficiency, and identifying anomalies such as leaks or bursts much earlier. Historical datasets, such as decades of main break records, further enhance predictive modeling, allowing the software to combine live monitoring with long-term asset risk forecasting. Baseform’s DataSync capability allows the software to connect to any available data source used by utilities and synchronize with streaming data in real time. At one of the largest water utilities in the western United States, with a distribution network spanning more than 3,000 km, Baseform receives new data every 15 minutes from over 500 SCADA network meters measuring flow, pressure, level, and other key variables. Baseform connects to many different SCADA providers, including AVEVA’s product previously known as Schneider’s Wonderware. Our first live connection to Wonderware dates back more than 10 years. Since then, Baseform has incorporated specialized software agents to connect to this platform in multiple ways, including direct integration with historian databases, connections through third-party LHG software drivers, and more recently via REST APIs. This long-standing experience ensures reliable communication with one of the most widely used SCADA systems globally. Baseform recently implemented an optimized connection agent designed to take full advantage of the latest Aveva SCADA Historian REST APIs. This enhanced connector fetches new data faster and more reliably while using significantly less bandwidth, ensuring smoother integrations and more efficient handling of high-frequency time-series data. By improving both the speed and reliability of data synchronization, the utility benefits from more responsive monitoring, better analytics, and a stronger foundation for predictive insights.
